Get to know the FINABIEN cards to send and receive remittances

FINABIEN is a public organization coordinated by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT). Since October 21, 2022, by decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, the name of TELECOMM changed to Financiera para el Bienestar, and assumed new tasks, including promoting the sending and receiving of remittances through FINABIEN Mexico and United States cards.

At Financiera para el Bienestar we all aime to provide a dignified and qualified service to people who receive their money from outside the country to our branches, since we know that remittances represent the work, effort, support and commitment of many families.

It is worth remembering that on May 1, 2023, FINABIEN Mexico and United States cards were introduced – at the morning presidential conference – which can be requested online for free in teh following website: www.gob.mx/finabien or in person. If you are in the United States you can go to the nearest consulate and if you are in Mexico you can purchase it at any of the 1,700 FINABIEN branches, https://finabien.gob.mx/gobmx/sgst/ or order it through the mail; You just have to go to the FINABIEN website mentioned above and click on “Request your Financial Card for Wellbeing”; You will need to have an email, cell phone and official identification (INE, valid passport, consular registration and/or driver’s license) on hand. 

During the registration process, a photo of both sides of the identification will be requested, as well as a video of the face to validate the identity; You will also have to fill out some fields and at the end you will find the terms and conditions of use. Once the process is completed correctly, in a matter of days you will receive the card at the registered address.

To activate the card you can download the Financiera para el Bienestar application, available either  on Android, through Google Play or through the App Store.

From that moment, in the Financiera para el Bienestar application you will be able to collect remittances, withdrawals, deposits and interbank transfers. Plus, you can save through the virtual vault and get up to 10 percent annual returns.

It is a payment method that has the support of MasterCard, you can make purchases online and in thousands of physical establishments, recharge airtime, pay for services and much more.

Additionally, in the 1,700 FINABIEN branches in Mexico you can:

  • Send national and international money orders
  • Cash deposits and withdrawals
  • Payment of credit cards from 10 banks
  • Airtime purchase
  • Payment of utilities: water, electricity, telephone, pay television and gas
  • Payment of taxes from different states and municipalities.

What is the FINABIEN card for – United States?

The Financiera para el Bienestar card in the United States is used for people who live in that country to send remittances directly through the card.

Sending the remittance is very affordable. For just  3 .99 dollars, the sender may transfer up to to an amount of 5,000 USD (five thousand dollars) per day. Transfering the  remittances´ low cost  provide great support for people who live and work in the US, benefiting their families who receive them in Mexico. You will get more pesos for every  dollar.

How do I add money to my card in the United States?

You can make deposits at more than 100,000 affiliated businesses and also make interbank transfers.

How do I add money to my card in Mexico ?

Deposits can be made at FINABIEN branches and in more than 20,000 affiliated businesses.

The aforementioned method allows you to reduce the cost of remittances and the waiting time for their delivery at their destination. Using the FINABIEN card provides a great advantage to the Mexican community living outside their country. When first time used, it creates a digital bank account in dollars, therefore reducing marginalization and banking exclusion.

The FINABIEN cards and the mobile application are Financiera para el Bienestar products, developed by the current Administrative contributing to the welfare, either the sender or  the receiver of the remittances, by  lowering the cost of transfering the money and simplifying the process,  and definetly contributing to the financial inclusion among Mexicans inside and outside the country.
